BIO
Troy Jolley was born of musically gifted parents; the first of 6 strapping boys who were introduced to various musical instruments and mandatory vocal performances in church.
At the tender age of 8, Troy was ‘forced’ to take piano lessons. His mother, Celia, can tell you about the times he ran away from home or threatened to end his life if he had to practice one more time!
When his piano teacher moved away, Troy discovered that he enjoyed playing the piano, as he learned the popular music of the ’80s by ear, which led him to compose some original music for High School Dances and Assemblies. When he found that chicks loved it, he decided he had a good thing going.
With that revelation Troy was highly motivated, so his ever-supportive father, Dean, took him to the local music store and bought his first synthesizer/keyboard. He spent many hours in the basement with that keyboard and an old Mac computer, composing and re-creating songs from artists like Howard Jones, Journey, Depeche Mode, and Barry Manilow – didn’t expect that one, did you?
Ever since that time, Troy has spent much of his spare time playing with garage bands, cover bands, and original bands of many types and genres. One of particular interest to present company was his meeting with TOAST front man Jeff Clark, who was auditioning keyboard players and background vocalists for his cover band, Runway, almost 30 years ago! Troy Joined Runway and collaborated to perform around the intermountain west and record a self-titled original CD of “Rock/Country (crossover)” music that received good airplay and attention in the area.
In 2006, Troy auditioned and was accepted into the world famous “Mormon Tabernacle Choir”. He performed and toured with the choir and orchestra for 5 years. In his opinion, this was one of the highlights of his musical career.
As Troy had stayed in touch with Jeff Clark through the years, he was one of the first Jeff called in 2017 to present the idea for “A Toast to Bread” as a one-time tribute show to Bread. Jeff dreamed of presenting this at Kenley Amphitheater in Layton, Utah. Troy joked, “Who is Bread”? Of course, he knew of Bread as he had played some of their popular songs with Jeff in Runway all those years ago.
The rest, as they say, is history. Troy loves the connection he feels to his friends and bandmates through the powerful, well-constructed songs of Bread. He is thrilled to raise a TOAST to faithful and devoted Bread fans who support and admire the tribute band. TOAST loves being buttered up!
